Build a small usable foundation

Begin with language that forms a conversation: greeting someone, giving your name, saying where you are from, asking a simple question and recognising a likely reply. Learn a repair phrase such as asking someone to repeat more slowly, because real conversations rarely follow a perfect script.

A four-stage starting sequence

1. Hear and copy: Notice Brazilian Portuguese rhythm, stressed syllables and a few important sounds inside complete phrases.
2. Build patterns: Reuse frames such as “I am…”, “I like…” and “I need…” with personal vocabulary.
3. Understand replies: Practise short questions with two or three realistic answers instead of rehearsing only your own line.
4. Have a mini-conversation: Combine greetings, information and follow-up questions, then repeat it with one detail changed.
