Barbara Sharon is a Brazilian Portuguese teacher based on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. She teaches private and group lessons online to learners worldwide and offers in-person lessons on the Gold Coast when current venue, schedule, and availability allow.
Qualifications and teaching focus
Barbara holds a Bachelor’s degree in Languages and Literature from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and is a TESOL-certified instructor. Her professional background also includes counselling, and she is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Educational Studies and Behaviour Management.
Her teaching focuses on Brazilian Portuguese for practical communication. Lessons bring together conversation, listening, pronunciation, useful vocabulary, grammar in context, and cultural understanding. Barbara works with learners from beginner to advanced levels and adapts the balance of those elements to each learner’s purpose, such as travel, family, work, study, or everyday conversation.
How I teach Portuguese
In my lessons, I connect speaking, listening, reading, and writing rather than treating them as separate subjects. We practise tasks that match the learner’s real goal, correct important errors early, recap the corrected language, and return to it in later activities. I also use clear progress checkpoints so learners can recognise what has improved and what to practise next.
